At age 8. And a 1/2.

The envelope read:
To: Santa
From: Kara
Age: 8 1/2
Street: Jakie Ave.

Looks like 8 year old me had trouble spelling my street name at the time.

And now for the letter, unedited, for your reading pleasure:

Dear, Santa, I want these Things, I want my size Rapunzel Barbie Vanity, Barbie Phone answering machine, Barbie and Ginger, Barbie cruisin' cars, new born diaper babay, magic stroller baby, C.A. And I bolded "milk and cookies" because I'm amused that I actually asked for that in a Christmas letter.

And no, I didn't get any of that for Christmas. Although, I did have the Barbie Magic Hair Styler game already (so I'm not sure why I was asking for it...). You should see Andrew's letter though...he asked for a mountain. A literal one.
So You Think You Can Dance Tour :D

So...some of you know that I went to the So You Think You Can Dance Tour in Charlotte. Some of you don't, but, well...now you do. And some of you know that I am a HUGE fan of one of the dancers, Mark Kanemura. This is him: http://markkanemura-online.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=107&pos=274
http://http://markkanemura-online.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=107&pos=297

And some videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoEqMOcuXLI Beautiful-Contemporary
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWpyYkdXXL8 Argentine Tango
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgBO2OcKVU0 Bleeding Love-Hip Hop
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-DewX0aPeQ The Dance-group routine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3H_kkANvGM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J04ixeP2DI Bum Like You solo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7gqTS4nSjQ BoRhap
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOyUwrNwn1A London Bridge choreography
And this one's just cute:
http://kccnfm100.com/video/1738801162/Mark teaches Pipi how to dance

Getting to the main point....Here are the links to my photobucket albums so, if you want or are curious enough, you can check out the pics I took at the show and the vids too.
http://s104.photobucket.com/albums/m178/BrdwayRokr16/Video/
http://s104.photobucket.com/albums/m178/BrdwayRokr16/SYTYCD%20Tour%202008/
http://s104.photobucket.com/albums/m178/BrdwayRokr16/SYTYCD%20Tour%202008%20Part%202/

If you want to read about my experience at the show (including MEETING MARK) recap, go to www.markkanemura-online.org and click on the forum, and look for So You Think You Can Dance 2008, then "Dancin' in the Q.C.".

markkanemura-online.org is a good place to go in genreral if you want to learn more about the guy. I haven't written in a loooonnnngggg time! Maybe not that long, but I'm sure you understand.

Let's see...Halloween. It was pretty good. I was an 80's punk. Well, technically, I was Agnus Angst from "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe". I'm performing one of her monologues in my acting class. But 80's punk is much easier to explain. Went trick-or-treating. Started late though, so by the time we got out there, all the houses were shutting down. I got, like, maybe 5 pieces of candy, total. So disappointing...

Working on costumes for Romeo and Juliet. Pretty frickin' excited!!! And I think everyone, no matter where you are, should come see it. November 20-22. That's what I have to say about that.

And guess what else I'm super-excited for??? The So You Think You Can Dance tour!!! Yup, yup, I got tickets!! I'm getting a chance to see my favorite dancer from the show, Mark Kanemura, dance live, so I'm super, super happy!!

That's all I have to say for now, but, um...more another time. Maybe. Depends on how lazy I am.

Things I've thought about this morning so far...

I remembered earlier just how many malls I went to in Jakarta last summer. I looked up a list of Indonesian malls, and while I don't remember the names exactly, I'm pretty sure I've covered a lot of the list for malls in Jakarta. Not to mention the mall I went to in Singapore, and the one in L.A. (but I'd been to several malls in L.A. many, many times...for twelve years, so they were nothing new). Oh-- and the several malls I went to in Thailand (if your ever in Bangkok, check out The Platinum Fashion Mall)! Bali was cool, because there were a lot more places to go and things to see. Jakarta was like, building, building, building, shack, building, car, car, car....And Malls galore. Very tall malls (they don't have space to build out, unlike our malls in the U.S., so they build up). Some of them are very nice and some are sort of...well...not so nice. It was interesting to see the malls in Southeast Asia too. The nicer malls in Indonesia were set up the way they are here, with one floor set up as food court. Most of the malls, Indonesia and in Thailand, were actually set up more like swap meets. There weren't signs over the stores. There were dividers in the middle of the rooms with more little shops. Not a lot of walking room in the individual stores, either. Interesting about the Platinum Mall in Bangkok was that it was very nice, but also set up in a similar fashion. Plus, in the food court, you had to put money on a little card, then go around, pick what you wanted to eat from one of the little food places (there was a KFC, and then everything else was just different varieties of noodles and soups) and hand over the card and they would take money off of it. I guess you would put more money on it if you lived there, but we didn't so we only put enough money on to buy us what we needed. When the card had no more money, you returned it or renewed it. You also had to buy your drinks (and dessert) at a separate stand. It was interesting. I also liked the parking decks in Singapore, but that's for another day...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know, if you don't surround a bull with a bunch of red to aggravate it, it's really just a male cow. Granted, it's got horns, but if you don't make it mad, what's it gonna do? Bulls have this reputation for being mean and stuff...but like, duh. If you purposefully provoke, yeah, it's gonna be angry. And it's got horns. So now you've just screwed yourself over. If you leave the animal alone, I think you'll be good, don't you?

Post about nothing in particular...

Michael Caine's real name is Maurice Mickelwhite. I like Michael Caine better....

My family and I went to South Park to see the Charlotte Symphony play. It was going to be a bunch of Broadway music, so I was preparing for a nice guessing game of "What Song? What Show?". We had a picnic and everything- very nice. Then the rain fell...No matter. We'll stick out, we thought. The symphony struck up again about 15 minutes later, when the rain had lightened. Then thunder sounded right in the middle of a woman singing "Cabaret". End show. Ah well. The food was good. Never underestimate cheese whiz.

There are so many movies coming out this summer that I want to see...and I'm pretty sure I don't have the money to see them all...

I am completely fascinated by how Robin Williams creates characters. I was watching him on Inside the Actor's Studio. I'm amazed by how he can formulate an idea or thought, run with it, be led to the next thought and then just run with that. So interesting to watch...

Is O.J. still looking for the killer?

Have you ever been to a wedding with a dessert reception? I have. It's the most brilliant idea ever.

I miss the beach. I would like to go sometime this summer.

I have also decided that I might just start the "Kara Wants to Back-Pack Through Europe So Please Donate Some Money Thank You Fund". :D

Just Stuff

1) Care Bears= trippy. Would you like it if a bunch of pastel colored animals just floated through your window on a cloud car? I'd be freakin' out...

2) According to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the Nazca Indians worshipped the Roswell Aliens. Who knew?

3) Del Sol is awesome.

That is all. I would like school to be over now. Finals are soon, and I only have three. But summer vacation is so close...It's like someone tied summer to the end of a stick, tied the stick to my head, and I'm running on this treadmill trying to get it...Not working for me so much.

At the same time, I would like to know: Where did the school year go? If anyone can answer that for me, I'd be much obliged. I mean, just a week after I got to Brevard, I felt totally comfortable being here and away from home. Not to say that I didn't miss home, because I did. But the transition wasn't to terribly hard on me and I adjusted pretty quickly. And all of a sudden, I became really good friends with people and the end of the first semester was here. Talk about mind boggling. It felt like we had just gotten to school yesterday and were just getting to know each other, and all of sudden it's half way done. Now my first year here is almost over. Yeah, my head? It's going, "Whoa!".

Time flies, huh?

Golden Globes Results (Partial) and "Rent" News

So, Ryan Gosling didn't win. I didn't think he would. I wanted him to because I think he deserves the recognition, but honestly, others deserved it more. Most of my predictions were wrong, but I got Cate Blanchett for I'm Not There right. I wasn't surprised by most of the wins, and I was happy with most of results so I'm not disappointed.

By the way, Best Motion Picture Drama went to Atonement (Which I thought it might-- though it had fierce competition). Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy went to Sweeny Todd, which I was ecstatic about, but also kind of surprised because I was kinda expecting Juno to get it.

Anywho....

So, I just found out that on June 1st, Rent will be ending it's run on Broadway. It is the seventh longest running show on Broadway. It makes me a little sad. It's bittersweet really. It had a good run, it was a good show. I'm glad I got to see it at least once on Broadway. It's amazing how one musical influenced a generation.

RIP Jonathan Larson-- you did something great.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

The traditional Golden Globes ceremony is being replaced by a press conference because of the writer's strike. I'm glad they're being respectful and not crossing the picket line and everything, but....no agreement has been reached yet and it's affecting everything else. I look forward to Hollywood awards season every year. These awards shows are to me what football is to so many others. A press conference? Not fun to watch. There is no entertainment at a press conference. It's even more boring than the SAG awards, and the SAG awards are pretty boring (though they are held in high regard).

Oh, I am saddened this day....

Golden Globe Nominations

It's tough competition in the Golden Globes this year. I've justs looked at the movie nominees, and I'm having a hard time with my picks. For me, the one pick that is going to be especially difficult is the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. All the nominees are extremely talented actors: Johnny Depp for Sweeney Todd, Ryan Gosling for Lars and the Real Girl, Tom Hanks for Charlie Wilson's War, Phillip Seymour Hoffman for The Savages, and John C. Reilly for Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

I think, though, my vote goes for Ryan Gosling, who I think is quite deserving. It's about time he won something-- he's talented and it's nice to see him get recognition.

My pick for Motion Picture-Drama goes to Atonement. For Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, it's a tie between Juno and Sweeney Todd.

I'll be back later with more picks.

Yay! Awards Season-- my favorite time of year!!!

EDIT: Back!

Alright, let's keep going with my picks:

Best Actor Drama: James McAvoy, Atonement
Best Actress Drama: Keira Knightly, Atonement
Best Actress Musical or Comedy: Ellen Page, Juno
Best Supporting Actor: Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Charlie Wilson's War
Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett, I'm not There
Best Director: Joe Wright, Atonement
Best Screenplay: Diablo Cody, Juno

Well, that's all I'm gonna do. After the Golden Globes, I'll post the winners.
